Follow @TheGuestAle Harveys of Lewes has been operating since 1790 and makes a host of cracking beer using local hops and English malts. It’s probably most famous for its Harveys Sussex Best Bitter, which is personally my favourite best (in a close tie with the Timothy Taylor Landlord). Due to its limited tours and high demand the waiting list for Harveys’ brewery tours can be more than two years. But it’s worth the wait. Harveys is a traditional brewer operating from its original site. The guides are informative and the best part is you can help yourself to the samples on tap at the end. Beer review: Harveys Sussex Best Bitter

Follow @TheGuestAle I’ve been looking forward to writing this one, because Harveys Sussex Best Bitter is one of my absolute all-time favourites. Harveys of Lewes, Sussex, has been brewing for two centuries and is a local icon. Its most famous and best-selling brand is the Sussex Best Bitter which makes up 90 per cent of Harveys’ brewing capacity. It won the “CAMRA Champion Best Bitter of Britain” title in 2005 and 2006, although it has been brewed since 1955. Harveys describes the Sussex Best Bitter as “a superbly balanced session bitter with a prominent hop character”.
